Anesthesia
We use general anesthesia for breast augmentation surgery.
The operation time
Breast augmentation surgery usually takes about one to two
hours.
Hospitalization
One night in the hospital after surgery.
Pain
Breast augmentation can be painful, especially with the first
24 hours; however during your one night stay in the hospital
you will receive IV pain medications.
Expectation after
surgery
Breasts are wrapped with elastic bandage for protection and
support. Some may have drainage tubes inserted for the first
24 hours, to help drain any excess fluids.
The
recovery period
After several days, the elastic bandage will be removed and
start wearing a support bra. The stitches will be removed
within a week.
You will be able to resume exercise and normal physical activities
within a month, when the soreness has subsided.
Possible risks and
complications
Breast augmentation carries very little risk. The complications
involved are infection, excessive bleeding, and even more
rarely adverse reaction to anesthesia.
Specific side effects
of breast augmentation include:
- Capsular contracture: the scar around the implant begins
to tighten, causing the breast to feel hard.
Loss in nipple sensitivity: usually a temporary effect.
